The dry land department
If we look the geographical location and condition of Afghanistan it is located in the central Asia ,surrounded by high mountain and so fare from the ocean so it has arid, semi arid wet and semi wet climates and it‘s 55% area is dry area, So the case of establishment of dry land Research department is three as below:
- :55% land of Afghanistan is dry
- :increasing of population in Afghanistan
- :replacing of agricultural area to residence
General objective of Dry land department:

For receiving to this object the dry land department tries to complete the bellow activities:
A. The dry land department tries to find drought resistance verities.
Cereal crop:
A.1 after getting the positive result the dry land department tries to introduce the drought resistance verities to all the farmers of the country. Until now we worked on cereal crops and two trails of wheat are in the NUT condition and we try to find drought tolerance verities of barley, corn, rice, sorghum …
Chick pea:
a.2 the dry land department work on chick pea to find the drought tolerance verities and after getting the positive result we try to introduce the verities all over the country.
Saffron:

- : As we research on chick pea, lentil and saffron we find that all these crop are resistance against drought.
- : If we cultivate that the short term plants and if it completes its growth cycle in the short time. We recommend cultivating the short term crop in the rainy season.
- As we research on forest plant we got that the plant which has long top root, narrow leaf, tick leaf and waxy leaf, all they resistance against the drought and we recommend all these plants to all over the country.
- As we seen the fruit plant like fire apple ,fig, olive, grape and walnut they have drought resistance variety we try to find the drought resistance varieties and getting the positive result we will recommend it all over the country.
- : as we search on water catchment systems in our country we recommend that semi circle, counter ,eyebrow and terrace system in the dry area.
- : As we seen the mulching system is also very useful for the moisture saving and we recommend the mulching system in the dry area.
- : As we seen that the plastic house is very useful for the saving of water so we recommend it in the dry area.
- : as we seen the irrigation system in agriculture the drip system, sprinkler systems are very useful so we recommend these two system in the dry area.
