Forestry,Forge and medicinal Plants

History:

According to the previous structure of ARIA, department of forest and animal husbandry was established since 1369. By passing of time and expansion of different activities department of Forest, Forage and Medicinal plant was separated in 1394. The main important activities of this department are research and study on forest, forage and medicinal plant quality and quantity as well as introducing of new technology for farmers and gardener. These areas because of insecurity in the last three decades have seen major damages before civil war meadows. Afghanistan land is covered by 46% pastures, 3% forest and woodland (about 867,000 hectares). Afghanistan has lost an average of 29,400 hectares of forest per year. Totally between 1990 and 2005; Afghanistan lost 33.8% of its forest cover, or around 442,000 hectares. Since the foundation of the economy of the country depends on the agriculture sector, serious consideration should be given in this regard. it’s also mention able some stick holders such as ICARDA support dept in case of forage seed and capacity building. Due to this necessity the department of forestry and pastures has done the following research and observation experiments in current year.

Vision:

Introduce the new technology through research, study, and observation of trial on different species of forest, forage and medicinal plant in case of quality and quantity, and high biomass production as well as resistant against environmental factors, pest and diseases.

Mission:

Introducing of the new technology through research, study, observation and implementation of the experiments trials and observation plot of forest, forage and medicinal plant in Kabul and provinces as followings:

  • Implement and actualise five years strategically plans, by short term, middle period and long term activities in capital and other provinces with financial, security organisational and necessaries facilities for them.
  • Comparative researches  and  useful  acts  have  be  done  in case of  improvement  and Reform of forest ,fodder and medicinal plants to increase the national incomes.

  • Reasonable using from natural forests, fodder and medicinal plants sources according to a spacious procedure for the district inhabitants.
  • Discovering for better kinds of forests and fodders according to quantity and quality for feeding the animals.
  • Collect and analyse the experimental research data after harvest.
  • Introduce the last experimental analysis data.

Achievements:

Finding of high yield production and high quality Alfalfa

In Alfalfa experiment which is includes eight varieties 1-58 n 58- 2-lucene amricai-3 prime- 4-kyseary1- 5-kyseary2- 6-lucern kabuli- 7-local variety- 8-medicm sativa from point of view of fresh weight 58 n58 variety with having (32.33 kg) yield from area of 10 m2 has gotten the first grade in during one-year research. It is mentionable two years research is remaining and from point of view of dry weight variety-58 n58 with having (14.72 kg) yield from from area of 10 m2 has gotten the first grade which shows remarkable difference in 5% from other varieties and recognize as superior variety in period of one year. After two years more research the last result of Alfalfa variety will introduce and release after 2 years.

Finding of high yield production and high quality clover

In Clover experiment which is includes seven varieties 1– Giza 2 – Fahel 3 – Gimza 4– Serw 5 – sakhi 6 – local- 7 – Hellay from point of view of fresh weight local variety with having (20.33 kg) yield from area of 10 m2 has gotten the first grade in during one year research.  It is mentionable two years research is remaining and from point of view of dry weight variety with having (10) kg yield from area of 10 m2 has gotten the first grade which shows remarkable difference in 5% than other varieties and recognize as superior variety in period of one year, after two years more research the last result of clover variety will introduce and release after 2 years.
